About

Time flies when you are having fun.  We can't believe that we are beginning our 19th year here at Silver Springs.  We are grateful to all of our customers, many who have been here longer than we have.  It is our hope to continue to operate our property as a small, family owned and family friendly business for years to come.

The history of Silver Springs is an interesting one.  The original farmhouse was built sometime in the mid 1800s.  Prior owners operated the property as a farm, as a box making business and as a boarding home.  In the early 1930s, the original cottages were constructed, by a local contractor Thomas Brennan.  He and his wife Minnie opened the cottages to men working at the shipyards in South Portland, as year round temporary housing.  In those days, the turnpike was nonexistent, and Route 1 was the way to go!  Over the years, through different property owners, our cottage units have remained.  I believe that ours are the oldest continually operating in Saco.

The campground was begun in the early 1990s by the Glaude family.  Eighteen years ago we had 85 sites, now we have 140.  The cottages were rehabbed to provide modern bathrooms and electric services, and rebuilt with pine interiors. The campground and cottages complement each other, as we can accommodate folks with or without campers.

The Saco area is a great place to vacation.  We are close to all Southern Maine attractions, and as "locals", we will send you to our favorites.
